MS Dhoni Always Got the Best Out of Players, Says Former Australia Captain Ricky Ponting
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has recently claimed that there was a huge difference in the captaincy between him and former India captain MS Dhoni. While Ricky Ponting had captained Australia to successive ODI World Cup wins. MS Dhoni became the first and the only captain till date to win all three ICC trophies - the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
“He [MS Dhoni] never seems to let his emotions get the better of him, which is a really good trait in a leader — as hard as I tried when I was on the field, I could never quite stay in complete control of my emotions.” Ricky Ponting said to news.com.au.
He continued, “Indian teams always seemed to lift when he was captain. He always seemed to have this knack to be able to get the best out of his players. You knew that he had things under control, and his teammates loved that about him.”
One of the most celebrated captains further added that he has spent a lot of time in India also travelled around the world and listen to cricket fans as well where they talk about MS Dhoni and his leadership skill and how calm he stays under pressure on the field as well.
Currently, Ponting is eyeing to his stint with Delhi Capitals as the head coach in the upcoming Indian Premier League. He has said that he is waiting to face off against Chennai Super Kings in the tournament – the team leads by none other than MS Dhoni.
He said that Chennai Super Kings have been one of the most consistently strong and competitive teams in the history of Indian Premier League and that is because of his leadership as well and he is looking forward to coaching against him. The 13th edition of IPL is all set to begin from September 19 in the UAE and end on November 10.
